Terms & Conditions

Last updated: September 14, 2026

JCompete (the “Service”) is operated by Tyler Richer (“JCompete,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility & Accounts

You must be of legal age in your jurisdiction to enter into a binding contract to use the Service.

You are responsible for providing accurate account information, maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials, and all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.

2. The JCompete Service

JCompete is an independent trivia training, play-along, performance tracking, wagering practice, flashcard, and study platform.

Certain features may be designed for use while watching, reviewing, or studying trivia associated with third-party television programs. JCompete may also provide tools for tracking gameplay performance, organizing areas of knowledge, creating or accessing study materials, exporting flashcards, and analyzing your trivia performance.

Features may be added, changed, limited, or discontinued from time to time.

3. Independence & Third-Party Intellectual Property

JCompete is independently owned and operated and is not affiliated with, authorized by, endorsed by, sponsored by, or associated with Jeopardy Productions, Inc., Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony Pictures Television, or their respective affiliates.

JEOPARDY! and other third-party names, trademarks, logos, program titles, and related intellectual property referenced through the Service are the property of their respective owners. References to third-party programs, trademarks, or content are used to identify the programs or content with which JCompete's independent tools may be used, or to provide relevant informational context. No affiliation, sponsorship, endorsement, or authorization is intended or implied.

Certain features of the Service may reference information concerning aired television episodes, including episode information, categories, clues, responses, contestants, scores, or other game information. JCompete does not claim ownership of third-party trademarks or third-party content referenced or displayed through the Service.

JCompete also creates and provides independent study materials and tools, including JCompete-generated flashcards, classifications, topic mappings, annotations, analytics, performance data, and study features. These materials are independently created for trivia study and educational purposes and are not official JEOPARDY! materials and are not endorsed, approved, or provided by Jeopardy Productions, Inc. or Sony Pictures Entertainment.

4. Acceptable Use

You may use JCompete for personal, lawful purposes consistent with these Terms and your selected plan.

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for unlawful purposes, fraud, harassment, abuse, or spam.
  • Infringe the intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights of any person or organization.
  • Attempt to interfere with, compromise, disable, or circumvent the security or operation of the Service.
  • Introduce malware, malicious code, or other harmful technology.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, databases, or portions of the Service.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service except where such restriction is prohibited by law.
  • Circumvent subscription limits, export limits, access controls, rate limits, or other technical restrictions.
  • Use bots, scripts, crawlers, scraping tools, data-mining tools, automated processes, or similar technologies to extract, copy, download, index, or collect substantial portions of the Service, its flashcard library, classifications, taxonomy, databases, or other content without our permission.
  • Copy, reproduce, republish, sell, sublicense, distribute, or commercially exploit JCompete-generated flashcards, study materials, classifications, databases, or other proprietary content except as expressly permitted by the Service.
  • Use JCompete content or data to create, train, populate, or materially support a competing trivia, flashcard, study, or data product without our written permission.
  • Resell access to the Service or make your account available to others in a manner intended to avoid applicable subscription fees.

Where JCompete provides an export feature, you may use exported study materials for your own personal, non-commercial study, including through compatible third-party study applications such as flashcard software. Permission to export content for personal use does not grant permission to publish, redistribute, resell, or commercially exploit the exported materials.

5. JCompete Intellectual Property

Except for Your Content and third-party intellectual property, JCompete retains all rights, title, and interest in and to the Service and its proprietary materials.

This includes, where applicable, JCompete's software, user interface, design, documentation, branding, databases, compilations, taxonomies, topic structures, classifications, annotations, analytics, JCompete-generated flashcards and study materials, and the selection, organization, arrangement, and presentation of such materials.

Your subscription or use of the Service does not transfer ownership of these materials to you.

Subject to these Terms, JCompete grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right to access and use the Service for your personal use within the features and limitations of your selected plan.

Nothing in this section claims ownership over third-party trademarks, television program content, or other intellectual property belonging to third parties.

6. Your Content

“Your Content” means original content that you independently submit or create through the Service, such as profile information, notes, feedback, or original flashcards that you author.

Your Content does not include JCompete-generated study materials, third-party content, or content that you merely select, save, classify, study, or export through the Service.

You retain any ownership rights you have in Your Content. You grant JCompete a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, reproduce, display, and process Your Content as reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service.

If you voluntarily submit original content for inclusion in a shared or community library, you grant JCompete a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, edit, adapt, display, distribute, and make that content available to other JCompete users in connection with operating and improving the Service.

You represent that you have the necessary rights to submit any content you provide to JCompete.

7. Study Materials & Accuracy

JCompete is intended for trivia study, entertainment, and educational purposes.

Flashcards, classifications, annotations, statistics, recommendations, explanations, and other study materials available through JCompete may be created or assisted by automated or artificial-intelligence systems. Although we work to improve the quality and accuracy of these materials, they may contain errors, omissions, incomplete information, or outdated information.

JCompete does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any trivia fact, flashcard, classification, statistic, recommendation, or other study material.

You should not rely on JCompete as an authoritative source for legal, medical, financial, safety-critical, or other professional or high-stakes information.

8. Plans, Payments & Subscriptions

JCompete may offer free and paid plans.

Paid subscriptions may be billed monthly, annually, or according to another billing period disclosed at checkout. The price, billing frequency, included features, and any applicable trial or promotional terms will be displayed before purchase.

Payments are processed through Stripe or another payment processor identified at checkout.

Paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless canceled before the next renewal date.

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Account page or another cancellation method provided by the Service. Unless otherwise stated, cancellation prevents future renewal charges and you will retain access to paid features through the end of your current paid billing period.

Applicable taxes may be calculated and collected at checkout.

We may change subscription prices or plan features from time to time. If a price change affects an existing subscription, we will provide reasonable notice before the new price applies to a future renewal.

Subscription fees are charged for access to JCompete's Service, functionality, proprietary tools, and study materials. Payment for JCompete does not constitute the purchase, sale, or license of any third-party trademark or other third-party intellectual property.

9. Refunds

JCompete offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for eligible subscription purchases, subject to the conditions described in our Refund Policy.

The guarantee is intended to allow new subscribers to evaluate JCompete Premium in good faith.

We reserve the right to deny or limit refunds in cases of fraud, abuse, repeated refund requests, or substantial downloading, exporting, copying, redistribution, or other use of Premium content inconsistent with a good-faith evaluation of the Service.

Additional eligibility requirements, exclusions, and instructions for requesting a refund are described in the Refund Policy.

Cancellation of a subscription and requesting a refund are separate actions. Canceling prevents future renewals but does not automatically refund previous charges.

10. Intellectual Property Complaints

JCompete respects the intellectual property rights of others.

If you believe that material available through the Service infringes your copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights, please contact us through our Contact page and provide:

  • Identification of the material at issue.
  • A description of the intellectual property right you believe is affected.
  • Your contact information.
  • Sufficient information for us to locate and evaluate the material.
  • Any other information reasonably necessary for us to understand and respond to your request.

We may remove, restrict, modify, or disable access to material while evaluating an intellectual property complaint or where we reasonably believe doing so is appropriate.

11. Service Availability & Warranties

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

We do not guarantee that JCompete will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or compatible with every device or third-party service. We also do not guarantee that any particular feature, episode, flashcard, statistic, export, or other content will remain available indefinitely.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranties arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, JCompete's aggregate liability for claims arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the amount you paid to JCompete during the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, JCompete will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses arising from or relating to your use of the Service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable law, including liability for fraud, death, or personal injury where legally applicable.

13. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless JCompete and its operator from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses arising from:

  • Your Content.
  • Your unlawful or unauthorized use of the Service.
  • Your violation of these Terms.
  • Your infringement or violation of the rights of another person or organization.

14. Suspension & Termination

We may suspend, restrict, or terminate access to the Service where we reasonably believe it is necessary because of:

  • A material violation of these Terms.
  • Non-payment.
  • Fraud or suspected fraud.
  • Security risks.
  • Abuse of the Service or its content.
  • Repeated or serious violations of our policies.
  • Legal or regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct that threatens JCompete, its users, or third parties.

You may cancel your paid subscription or close your account using the methods provided through the Service or our Contact page.

When your account is terminated or closed, your right to access the Service ends, subject to any rights that survive termination. We may retain or delete account information in accordance with our Privacy Policy, applicable law, legitimate business needs, and our data-retention practices.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination—including provisions concerning intellectual property, acceptable-use restrictions, liability, indemnification, and disputes—will continue to apply.

15. Changes to the Service or These Terms

We may update the Service and these Terms from time to time.

If we make material changes to these Terms, we will provide reasonable notice through the Service, by email, or through another appropriate method when required or appropriate.

Updated Terms will identify their effective date. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms where permitted by law.

If you do not agree to revised Terms, you should stop using the Service and cancel any active subscription before your next renewal.

16. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, except where applicable consumer-protection laws require otherwise.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the state or federal courts having jurisdiction in Massachusetts.

Nothing in these Terms limits any consumer rights that cannot lawfully be waived under applicable law.
